Enact the Occupied Territories Bill: Online Solidarity Event

Join us this Wednesday, 19 November, 1.00pm for a lunchtime online event hosted by the Irish Development Education Association (IDEA) on the Occupied Territories Bill – why it matters now more than ever, and what meaningful action is needed in solidarity with Palestine. Register here.

IDEA CEO Ruairí McKiernan will host an expert panel, including Éamonn Meehan, from Sadaka – Ireland Palestine Alliance, Karol Balfe, from ActionAid Ireland, and Faten Alsourani, from Trócaire. We’ll explore why the Bill is vital, the urgency of maintaining public pressure, and how civil society can stay engaged. The event is free to attend – all are welcome.

This will take place ahead of the #PassTheOTB rally at 5.30pm on Kildare Street that evening.

IDEA also expresses strong support for our members joining the rally and backing the cross-party motion on the Occupied Territories Bill. Organisations including Trócaire, Christian Aid Ireland, ActionAid Ireland, Oxfam Ireland, Afri - Action from Ireland, Development Perspectives, Financial Justice Ireland, Comhlámh - Irish Association of Development Workers and Volunteers, Stand, Amnesty International Ireland, The Centre for Global Education, 80:20 Educating & Acting for a Better World, Oxfam Ireland, and Friends of the Earth Ireland have been at the forefront of education, advocacy, and humanitarian work on Palestine for decades.

This rally comes amid the catastrophic ongoing genocide in Gaza and escalating violence across the West Bank. These realities demand a principled response that upholds international law and ensures Ireland is not complicit in human rights violations.

As the national platform for Development Education/Global Citizenship Education, IDEA supports our members in fostering critical thinking, understanding, and action on global injustice. The Occupied Territories Bill aligns with the core values of DE/GCE and with Ireland’s tradition of standing for human rights, dignity, and peace.

IDEA stands firmly behind the Occupied Territories Bill as a necessary and timely step towards justice, accountability, and lasting peace.

Code Network Meeting December 2026

Date: Tuesday 01 December, 10.00am – 3.30pm Location: Richmond Barracks, Inchicore, Dublin 8, D08 YY05 IDEA is looking forward to welcoming all members of the Code of Good Practice for Development Education to our next Code network meeting on Tuesday 1 December, in Richmond Barracks in Inchicore, Dublin. There are places for two representatives, staff, volunteers, etc., from each Code member. One of the commitments in joining the Code is to contribute to the Community of Practice for this Code, including sharing successes and learning with other Code members and attending at least one of two Code network meetings annually.
